Different vehicle models have different connection options and the quality and quantity of data that can be obtained may does vary among the different options. We've summarized the available options and their qualities for all our supported vehicles in our Live Data Comparison.
Yes! You may combine one in-car live data source and one over-the-air live data source. In-car sources are basically options for which you'd have to be in the car to be able to obtain data, such as the ABRP OBD connection where the OBD transmits data directly to your phone via Bluetooth. Usually such connections provide better quality data, allowing for logging activities and calibrating consumption, however the downside is of course one cannot check on the charging when not in the car. Therefore it is possible to link an OTA source in addition which lets one fetch data remotely.
The only current live data option for the Polestar 2 is via the ABRP Android Automotive app for Polestar 2. You must first download the app in your car infotainment system to link the car. Once downloaded and opened, the app should detect the car. Log into your ABRP account to add the connection to your account.
We cannot recommend any specific model because the OBD dongle market is a jungle. However, one hard requirement is that the device supports BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) for connection - not classic Bluetooth. We have also compiled a short list of devices we've found to be compatible. You may read more about the ABRP OBD connection and check out the list here.
Here's a brief description of the different connection statuses;
Attempting to establish a connection between phone and OBD device.
The connection status is unknown.
Successfully connected.
Bluetooth is turned off and not connected.
Bluetooth is turned on, but the OBD device remains disconnected.
Make sure the OBDLink CX is updated with the latest firmware version
Make sure the dongle is not connected to the OBDLink app
Make sure to turn on the car before attempting to link
Try it again a few times. Sometimes it hangs a bit initially
Make sure the ABRP app has permission to use Bluetooth in your iOS or Android device settings
Make sure the OBD device is properly plugged in, plugging it out and back in may help
Make sure the car is turned on when attempting to link
Try it again a few times, sometimes, it hangs a bit
Make sure to click 'save' once the device has been found and connected successfully
1. In ABRP, go into: Settings > Car model
2. Click the vehicle model. Make sure to select the correct vehicle
3. Click “Edit settings” and then scroll down until you see the connected live data option(s). Here, you should be presented with the option to 'disconnect.' Click the button to disconnect.
4. Select a linking option in the list (if you're using dual live data sources and one is still linked, you'll need to specifically click to link either an in-car or an over-the-air source).
5. Follow the setup instructions
1. In ABRP, go into: Settings > Car model
2. Click the vehicle model. Make sure to select the correct vehicle
3. Click “Edit settings” and then scroll down to the bottom of the menu.
4. At the very bottom, you'll find the option "reset consumption."
5. Click it, and confirm to reset. ABRP will then use the default value for the vehicle model, which may result in more pessimistic predictions at first, but as you drive, we'll calibrate your consumption value. Important! The option to reset the calibrated reference consumption is only available for vehicles that are linked for live data, as we otherwise cannot calibrate the value. If your vehicle is not connected, please link it again.
First, ensure you have an active ABRP Premium subscription or trial. A linked vehicle is also a requirement for making use of this feature.
Ensure you have the ABRP watchOS app installed on your Apple watch. You can view installed and available apps in the official Watch app.
Visit this support page created by Apple, select the watchOS version you’re running, and follow the instructions on how to add complications.
If you have multiple vehicles linked for live data in ABRP, the watch will display data for the one currently selected in the ABRP WatchOS app. To change a vehicle, simply open the watchOS app and scroll through the list of vehicles. The data in the complications will update accordingly.
Please note what data types (or types of complications) we can support depends on the live data option used for the connection and the vehicle model itself.
Firstly, the 'My Drives' feature does require the following in order for ABRP to record any activities;
- An active ABRP Premium subscription or trial period
- An active live data connection supporting the 'My Drives' feature
- That 'My Drives' is enabled for the vehicle, by toggling on the 'Save My Activity' switch in the settings for the vehicle
Given all the above are fulfilled and the vehicle has been active while connected to ABRP you should now be able to export the recorded data.
Click the 'My Drives' button.
Then click the 'Export' button and select the interval of days you'd like to export data for. Should you wish to export an individual driving or charging session; 1. Select the day the activity occurred in the calendar
2. Find the activity in the selected days listed activities 3. Click the 'export' button to the right of the activity
My Drives is a feature that requires an active ABRP Premium trial or subscription. If you're looking to enable the feature, please first ensure your account has an active ABRP Premium status.
